I. FIRST GENERATION JAMES MCAFFEE

This James McAffee was born about 1745 and died in 1814, with burial at Warrior Run, PA Cemetery.

"McAffee's came from County Antrim, Ireland to the Colonies in about 1735, a family of weavers. Sinking Springs, (Berkshire Co.), Pa. is somehow connected in their history." 2

On 4 October 1770 he married Jane Durham. She was born in 1741 in Ireland and died in 1823.1

They had three children:3

+1) James; born 6 July 1771 who married Martha McMichael.

2) Mary; born about 1776 who married Capt. John McMichael, brother of Martha.

3) Margaret.

During the Revolutionary War he served as a Private in the Northumberland County Militia of the Continental Line. He is listed among those "Soldiers Who Received Depreciation Pay as per canceled certificates on file in the Division of Public Records, Pennsylvania State Library."5

"In memory of JAMES McAFFEE who departed this life March the 4th 1814, aged 74 years. He officiated as an Elder in the Church with high approbation."

Also among the "List of Soldiers of the Revolution who Received pay for their Services [taken from manuscript record, having neither date nor title, but under Rangers of the Frontiers, 1778-1783], was published in Vol. XXIII, (page 245) Pennsylvania Archives, Third Series by former editor." 6

His name is also listed in the "Supply Tax" for Northumberland County for 1783 and 1784.7
