V. Fifth Generation:Jonathan Belding (Belden)

Jonathan Belden, the son of Silas and Abigail Robbins Belden, was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut 16 November 1737. He married Sarah Belding (Belden) of Hartford 22 March 1759 by Rev. Joshua Bels. She was the daughter of John and Sarah Kellogg Belding of West Hartford, Connecticut. Jonathan died 9 January 1778 in Canaan, Connecticut. Jonathan brought his bride from Newington to Canaan on horseback. Where they lived at first is not known but it is known that in 1762 he bought a farm from William Warner, which was later to be known as the Kellogg place, at the intersection of Route # 7 and Kellogg Road. Jonathan served in the Revolutionary War, as Ensign, Sergeant, and Lieutenant in the 6th. Company of the 14th Regiment, with Capt. William Burrall, under Colonel Charles Burrall. Children of Jonathan and Sarah, all born in Canaan; 1) Jonathan, born 18 June 1760, died 1 October 1772. 2) Sarah, born 18 January 1762, died 26 December 1777. 3) Patience, born 18 February 1764, married Oliver Kellogg, died 2 December 1839 in Sharon, Michigan. 4) Polly born 17 October 1765, married Ashbel Hosmer 2 November 1783. 5) Silas, born 11 September 1767, died 18 August 1804. 6) Lois, born 18 December 1769, died 26 June 1851. She married Samuel Rowe. 7) Lydia, possibly born 13 May 1773, married Ezra Smith. 8) Abigail, born 13 May 1773, died 1 October 1775. 9) Anna, born 15 June 1775, died 2 September 1777. +10) Jonathan, born 14 June 1778."
