¹EXPLANATION OF LINE NUMBERS, ETC.:
The Father's line number is double that of the child and the Mother's number is one larger than the Father's. In Generation 8 you will notice that number 272, John Belden, is the same person as number 128 in Generation 7. This is because two of his children, number 136 and number 64, are both ancestors of number 1, Louis Andrew Belden. Their ancestors are then duplicated through Hugh De Bailden in Generation 25. I hope this clarifies the reason for the duplication of Belden's in the above chart and similarily for Whitman's in the following chart.. You will also notice that the Belden surname spelling changed at various prior generations.
