¹ EXPLANATION OF LINE NUMBERS: The Father's line number is double that of the child and the Mother's number is one larger than the Father's. In Generation 4 you will notice that number 22, Alexander Ralston, is the same person as number 12 in Generation 3. This is because two of his children, number 11, Elizabeth and number 6, John, are both ancestors of number 1, Peter William Ralston. Their ancestors are then duplicated through David Ralston in Generation 8. I hope this clarifies the reason for the duplications in the above chart.
